Prepare a forklift for sale by identifying the actual truck and collecting its condition and equipment records. Buyers need to assess the configuration in front of them. A familiar brand name and an hours display are not enough to establish capacity, condition or suitability for another site.

Start with clear identifying photographs taken safely. Match the manufacturer, model and serial reference across the plate, instructions and available records. Flag a mismatch before it reaches the catalogue.

Build the sale dossier

Record the truck's power type, displayed hours and observation date, mast configuration, fitted attachments and included accessories. Preserve the source of specifications. A seller's measurement should not be presented as a manufacturer rating.

Use the following evidence headings:

  • Identity and configuration, including plate photographs.
  • Available operating instructions for the actual truck.
  • Service and repair history tied to its serial reference.
  • Available examination records and any recorded defects.
  • Known current faults or damage.
  • Attachments, batteries, chargers and other included items.
  • Viewing, demonstration and collection limitations.

HSE's second-hand equipment guidance explains the relevant supply responsibilities in Great Britain, including adequate information. It also makes clear that sold-as-seen wording does not remove the safety duties described there.

Check attachments and electrical equipment separately

A fitted attachment can change the information required to assess the truck. Use the attachment and capacity guide to collect the correct configuration evidence. Do not copy the truck's original headline capacity into the description without establishing what applies to its current arrangement.

For an electric truck, the battery and charger guide keeps the components and their records connected. A charger found nearby is not necessarily the charger included with that truck, and appearance does not establish compatibility.

Describe the examination evidence accurately

A report has a date, scope and findings. Do not turn its existence into an open-ended promise that the truck is safe for any task. The article on thorough examination records helps a seller identify unresolved points and questions for a competent person.

HSE's lift truck guidance covers management, training and examination. Those subjects matter when arranging a viewing or demonstration as well as in normal use. Do not allow an unfamiliar visitor to operate the truck simply to make the sale easier.

Help the buyer assess fit

The next business needs to compare the truck with its loads, floor, routes and working environment. The used forklift buyer guide sets out that separate decision. Your sale dossier provides evidence; it does not approve the truck for the buyer's warehouse.

Before approaching UK Auction Group, assemble the dossier and list the gaps. Include the present location and whether the forklift remains needed for other collections. The team can discuss the sale using the actual configuration and release constraints.
