For PTO-driven equipment, gather records for the implement, drive shaft and relevant tractor pairing. A shaft supplied beside a machine is not proof that the combination is correctly specified or guarded.

Identify the implement first, then record the shaft's markings and the available instructions. If the shaft's association is unclear, ask the manufacturer or appropriate specialist to confirm it. Keep that question open in the sale file rather than calling the lot complete.

Request the records as a connected set

Part of the arrangement Information to request Question for the specialist
Implement Model, serial, drive requirements and instructions What arrangement does this configuration require?
Drive shaft Maker, type and marked references Is it the specified shaft for the proposed pairing?
Shaft guard Identification, available records and visible condition Is the guard suitable and what assessment is needed?
Tractor-side arrangement Relevant tractor identity and instructions What information is needed to assess the connection?
Implement-side guarding Applicable documents and reported defects Is anything missing, damaged or unclear?
Changes or repairs Provider, date and scope Does the current arrangement match the records?

This sheet is for information gathering. It does not tell an owner how to couple, shorten, adjust or test a shaft.

Explain why guard identity matters

HSE's PTO guidance describes requirements including the appropriate guard size and length, a non-rotating arrangement and the relevant restraining device. A visible plastic cover does not establish that the guard is correct for the shaft and its movement.

Give the competent assessor the whole arrangement and applicable instructions. Do not use a single photograph to make a claim about protection through all operating positions.

Equally, do not remove a guard to improve the photograph of a marking. Record the inaccessible identifier as a gap and arrange safe, appropriate inspection if needed.

Keep the three equipment records separate

For a mower conditioner, connect the PTO evidence with the exact offered unit or combination and its documented configuration.

For a power harrow or cultivator, establish the actual driven arrangement before assigning a shaft or applying a generic equipment name.

For a flail mower, keep owner photographs and technical guarding findings distinct. A replacement head or altered setup may create additional questions for the assessor.

These links identify the relevant machine file. They do not make shafts or guards interchangeable between the examples.

Resolve missing information before a demonstration

If the manual is missing, obtain the applicable document from the manufacturer or another reliable provider and confirm that it matches the model and revision. A visually similar machine's instructions are not enough.

HSE's agricultural guarding guidance explains the need for suitable guards and effective condition. An unresolved concern should be assessed before equipment is used for a sales video or viewing demonstration.

Record the specialist's findings, limitations and required action. A note saying "guard required" is different from evidence that a suitable guard has been fitted and the relevant assessment completed.

Make the supplied scope explicit

The final inclusion list should identify the implement, shaft, guards, instructions and loose items actually supplied. State missing records and unresolved questions without implying that disclosure alone resolves safety duties.

Send that list to UK Auction Group's agriculture service. It gives the organiser a clear basis for deciding what further information or competent assessment is needed before agreeing the sale route.
