Air receivers: the paperwork questions to settle before sale

Match the air receiver's identity to the pressure-system records available before describing the paperwork in a sale listing. A report in the compressor folder may relate to a different vessel, earlier installation or different scope.
The seller's task is to assemble evidence and raise the right questions. A competent pressure-systems professional should establish what applies to the actual equipment and proposed arrangement.
Prepare a document index
| Document or detail | What to record | Question to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Receiver identification | Readable plate text, serial reference and photographs | Does every document identify this vessel? |
| Written scheme, where applicable | Version, scope and system references | Does it describe the relevant arrangement? |
| Examination reports | Date, equipment identity, findings and stated actions | What remains outstanding or requires review? |
| Repair or modification records | Work described, provider and supporting evidence | Has the configuration changed since the reports? |
| Instructions and technical records | Source and matching equipment details | What information is missing for the proposed supply? |
| Proposed sale boundary | Included vessel and associated components | What must be assessed if the system is separated? |
Do not summarise the file as certified without explaining which document exists and what it covers. Preserve findings and limitations, not only the first page or a sticker.
Ask about scope before dates
For Great Britain, HSE's PSSR guidance describes written schemes and examinations for qualifying equipment, as well as exceptions and the competent person's role. This guide does not supply a universal threshold or examination interval. Obtain advice for the actual system and jurisdiction.
A recent date on a report is less useful if the receiver cannot be matched to it. Likewise, an older record can be relevant history without proving the current arrangement is ready for use.
Explain what is being separated
Use the compressor package map to distinguish the receiver from the compressor and fixed installation. The dryer-and-filter guide helps identify associated treatment units that may have separate records or sale decisions.
If changes were made during the workshop's life, use the modified-machinery evidence guide to organise what is known. Do not assume the original documents cover every later alteration.
Keep missing records visible
Record which document is absent, who may hold it and the enquiry made. Ask the competent person what the gap means before promising that the buyer can simply obtain paperwork later. This page gives no inspection, pressure-testing or repair method.
Contact UK Auction Group with the receiver identity, document index and proposed sale scope. Ask how the specialist questions should be resolved before marketing, so the description reflects actual records rather than a general claim that paperwork is available.
