Tell UK Auction Group what you want the retirement or closure sale to achieve, which equipment may be available and what dates cannot move. Explain whether the business is still trading and who will remain available after you stop attending the site.

The general first-enquiry guide covers basic asset information and photographs. The brief below adds the details that distinguish a retirement or closure project from an ordinary surplus sale.

Copy and complete this enquiry brief

Reason for the enquiry: I am planning retirement / a business closure / closure of one location. The current position is [brief factual explanation].

Desired outcome: I would like the equipment project completed by [preferred date], with [support needed or other objective].

Equipment scope: The attached list covers [main asset groups]. Items proposed for retention, return or an ownership check are marked separately.

Remaining work: Trading is [continuing / winding down / stopped]. The equipment still needed for final work is [identified items], with availability to be confirmed by [contact].

Fixed dates: The relevant premises, access or other deadlines are [dates and which are confirmed].

Owner availability: I will be available until [date or pattern]. The proposed site contact afterwards is [name or role, subject to agreement].

Advice and authority: The person authorised to instruct the sale is [confirmed role]. Questions still with advisers are [brief list without unnecessary sensitive detail].

What I would like to discuss: Please advise on suitable sale routes, information still required, proposed responsibilities, costs to confirm and a practical timetable.

Leave unknowns visible. An honest incomplete brief is more useful than a precise date or ownership statement nobody has verified.

Attach the information that changes the proposal

Include a dated inventory, representative photographs, location and known access constraints. Highlight large or installed items that may need separate assessment. Identify whether buyers could view equipment in its current condition and who can answer factual questions.

Use the retirement disposal map if the scope is still developing. If only a short trading period remains, the backward closure schedule helps explain which dates depend on final customer work.

Do not put account passwords, personal identity documents or unrelated customer records into an initial marketing enquiry. Supply additional sensitive evidence through an appropriate agreed channel when needed.

Ask for a defined next step

The first useful response may be a request for more information or a discussion about a visit. Ask what decision that next step will support and who needs to attend.

Send a retirement enquiry through UK Auction Group's retirement auction service. For a closure project, its business closure service provides the relevant route. Include any site handback requirements already confirmed so the proposal addresses the physical finish as well as the sale itself.
